Type of institution: university, publicly funded tertiary institution UEL has three campuses in the east of London, in Barking, Stratford and Docklands, with 17,000 students overall.

The school of Architecture and the Visual Arts is located in the Docklands campus and was set up as the result of the amalgamation of the schools of architecture and art & design in 2003.

Centre for Evolutionary Computing in Architecture (CECA) is a research group within the school of Architecture and the Visual Arts (AVA). It provides a conceptual umbrella covering computing and design teaching in architecture at undergraduate, diploma and masters level at UEL AVA.
